I'm a little bit surprised about the alarm surrounding the future of LJ. Yes, they fired a bunch of people, and not too nicely. Layoffs are, alas, a common occurrence in the current economy.

Yes, Valleywag posted a nasty article, but that's Valleywag, people. Haven't you ever read it? It's full of venom and short on truth. I remember how years ago they ground into dirt a woman who wanted to establish a fashionista social network. As far as I know, both Stylediary and Stylehive are still going strong.

Is all this panic just because the owners are "Russian bears"? C'mon. LJ had many problems even when it was owned by the all-American couple behind SixApart. They always had communication problems, promised and didn't deliver, etc.

Am I saying that LJ is not going under? Who knows, everything can happen. A balcony once fell off a building and narrowly missed my grandfather. then a young man in his twenties. He died at 86. Nevertheless that balcony did fall.

Backing up is always a good idea, but I am not spending time on opening any more journals.
