Got an Honorable mention from the Writers of the Future contest, first quarter. Neat - a rejection with a winner's certificate!

That was the first story I ever wrote (late Aug. 07) , and while it is potentially strong, it has 7 pages of infodump at the very beginning. I know better now, but am hesitant to start reworking the thing because it overlaps with the book.

In other news, I dropped my laptop. Hard disk crashed. I am not sure yet how much data is lost, but certainly everything I've written in the last week (I think about 7-8K of the novel). I had a major breakthrough... Oh well. Bottomline, once-a-week backup is NOT enough. 'But I was young and foolish, / and now I am full of tears'. We'll see what my husband's friend will be able to restore.

Hope you're having a great weekend, everybody :)

Congratulations on the honorable mention! I've seen on Speculations.com You've had lots of success lately -- good for you!

I'm sorry to hear you may have lost some words.

FYI -- Those inexpensive little portable zip drives in the computer stores (they're sometimes even at the impulse buy section by the registers at your local Walmart) are great for backing up info. Plus if you want to pull up your story and work on it from another computer, it's right there in your pocket.

Hey - thanks a lot, T.J! I wouldn't say I had "lots" of success - just one sale and one poem sale... :) I have two more stories out at the moment, of which I am quite proud, but they are poetic and weird. I have no clue what market will take them - and matching stories to markets is crucial... Also I have no patience so I keep obsessively checking Duotrope, hehe.

Re: flash drives, I do use those :) But I did not back up for a week. Figures. I am going to order an on-line backup set up as soon as I get my machine back from service.

:)
